Manos Curativas Scholarship

HONORS & RECOGNITION AWARD
The Manos Curativas Scholarship was established by the WesternU Latino Medical Student Association and is awarded annually to a COMP student in good academic standing who has demonstrated financial need and past work/community service to the underserved Latinx community. One award is available to a first-year student.

Please limit your applications to a maximum of three Graduate Awards and three Honors & Recognition Awards. Applications exceeding these limits will not be considered.

Prohibition of AI-Generated Content
To maintain academic integrity and ensure the authenticity of work, the use of generative artificial intelligence tools (e.g., ChatGPT, Grammarly GO, Bard, or similar) to produce, rewrite, or substantially edit content in submissions is strictly prohibited. All submitted work must reflect the student’s own original thinking, analysis, and expression. Any use of AI-generated material will be considered a violation of academic honesty policies and may result in disqualification of award application.

Award amounts granted may vary each year depending on available funding.

  2. In 500 words: What challenges and barriers do you believe the Latinx community faces in accessing and receiving quality healthcare? Discuss factors that may contribute to these challenges and share your ideas for addressing them. You may draw upon your personal, academic, clinical, or community experiences and describe how you hope to contribute to improving healthcare access, trust, and outcomes for Latinx patients and communities.   3. In 500 words, please describe any significant challenges or barriers you have experienced on your journey toward medical school and how you have navigated them. These may include financial or socioeconomic circumstances, immigration or family-related challenges, the loss of a loved one, learning differences or disabilities, or other personal circumstances that have affected your educational journey. Reflect on how these experiences have shaped your resilience, perspective, and aspirations as a future physician. Share only what you feel comfortable discussing. (A 500-word essay is about 1 page single-spaced or 2 pages double-spaced using a standard 12-point font like Times New Roman with 1-inch margins.)
  4. In 300 words; How do you hope to contribute to the underserved Latinx community as a member of the Latino Medical Student Association, a medical student, and a future physician? Describe the ways you hope to support the community through service, advocacy, mentorship, education, and patient care. Reflect on how your experiences and values have shaped your commitment to improving healthcare access and building trust within underserved communities.
