Vietnamese Pharmacists Association (VPhA in the USA) Scholarship

The Vietnamese Pharmacists Association has provided $2,000 in scholarship funds to the College of Pharmacy for the Vietnamese Pharmacists Association (VPhA in the USA) Scholarship. There are two (2) $1,000 scholarships available.

Criteria: The following are the criteria established by VPhA and the College of Pharmacy, Scholarship Recognition and Awards Committee:
1) A student currently enrolled in the College of Pharmacy.
2) In good academic standing.
3) Financial Need (students using loans or other financial aid are considered to have financial need).
4) Qualified recipients are expected to share the ideals of the VPhA and participate in monthly association meetings.
5) Recipients are required to attend the Tet Banquet on 2/22/2026 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

  3. I agree that my essay response may be used in future VPhA-USA publications or posters. All personal or sensitive information will be de-identified.
  4. I agree that I will attend VPhA-USA monthly meetings for the year I am awarded the scholarship, starting the month of February. The meeting takes place every third Thursday from 6:30PM – 8:00PM. The meeting will be virtual on Zoom, and the link will be sent via email.
  5. I acknowledge my commitment to attend the Tet Banquet on Sunday, February 22, 2026, from 11AM–3PM at Diamond Seafood Palace #3 (6731 Westminster Blvd, #122, Westminster, CA 92683).
  6. In many Vietnamese families, health beliefs and practices are passed down through generations, sometimes shaping health decisions and attitudes toward healthcare. Reflecting on your experiences and observations, discuss how intergenerational health beliefs impact health-seeking or health-avoiding behaviors and medication adherence in the Vietnamese community. In your response: 1. Identify a specific intergenerational belief or cultural practice you’ve observed that affects healthcare decisions within Vietnamese families. 2. Describe how this belief or practice can influence health behaviors, both positively and negatively, across different generations. 3. Propose a pharmacist-led approach that respects these cultural values while promoting evidence-based care. Consider how pharmacists might work with family members or utilize culturally tailored communication to support better health outcomes.
